It is such a joy to watch your group during your storytelling sessions. You've developed a wonderful sense of camraderie with the storytellers, and I can tell that they look forward to seeing you every week. They are lucky to have you there, and from what I saw on Tuesday, you feel the same about them.

Ya this week Anne didn't want to come to the story telling session either. She was in the lounge but said she'd rather not come. Bridget tried to get Anne to come down with us but she opted out. Maxine was also there but I have no idea where she went after she did come out of her room. So we had Gretchen, Ruth, and Mary Lou for the session.

We did get to figure out a lot of things for our presentation day and I think at the end of this week we'll finally be able to tie some things together. We got our room and food figured out and who will be arriving when to get things together that day. We're not going to have too many extra visitors because most of our residents don't have any friends or family so we decided to opt out to open invite for our celebration. So it will mostly just be our class and our elder group- maybe some staff. But we may also have some kind of real press there as well! So be prepared. I think you guys will enjoy our food selection which we'll explain the day of. So it was a pretty productive day Tuesday-our story wasn't long but it was cute.

I think that you guys are realizing that much of this work is feeling your way through it. If someone bonds to you, you might sit near them and really develop a relationship. Because it's a group session - the emphasis should be on group, not on individual bonding...but sometimes a person needs that friend to help them participate in the group. It's really a matter of feel...
Doe that make sense?

Everyone seemed much more relaxed than the last time I was with you, and I think that helped the whole process. The storytellers are getting to know you, and that makes a difference. Wasn't Jean's song charming, even when she forgot the words? Even though it's hard to understand Denis, he obviously has a sly sense of humor, and it's great the way you bring that out in him. When I've been visiting, I've always tried to sit with different people each time, mainly because I don't want anyone to feel left out, but I know that sometimes you just bond with certain people. Then it's hard to judge whether you're doing more good by sitting with your friend. I wonder what Anne thinks about this. I'll have to ask her.

It really was a frustrating afternoon for your group, and I could see from Bridget's attitude and the behavior of the receptionist that this project isn't a priority for them. It's sad, not only because you've put in so much work on this, but also because the residents are missing out on the experience, and they really seem to enjoy their time with you. Let's hope that things get better, because you're presentation looks like it's going to be great (if you're ever given a room to work in). Meanwwhile, Anne and I discussed the transportation problem, and I told her to give all of the students my phone number. I'm at school for a class right before that one, and I'm willing to offer a ride to anyone who needs one, whether you're going to the same site I am or not. Keep your spirits up. You're doing great.

sorry about the transportation issues - let's make sure you have Joan's and my phone numbers so you can call when something like this comes up. Communication about transportation is part of the team responsibility.

You have every right to be pissed...you guys are working hard and doing a great job...I sent an email to Bridget today - and copied you all - hopefully that will help crack it. We'll talk more on this...it's the frustration of doing community based work.
